Live hard, Die young, Leave a gorgeous corpse..
Ever wondered what you do in the after life? How about a beauty pageant?
'Miss Cadaver! 2015 Think you're the most gorgeous deceased doll around? Come try out!'
Can you imagine that? A girl who died by falling out of a window, running out onto the stage, her face still smooshed and a gleam in her eyes as she starts to belt out.. "I believe I can fly! I believe I can touch the sky.." Or how about someone who was drowned coming out, still with seaweed in their hair and sand under their nails coming onto the stage and starting to dance to the song 'Swim until you can't see land.'
This is a reality, not so much with real dead people but more like amazing SFX makeups! There is a contest in the North Island of New Zealand called 'Miss Cadaver' Which is, essentially a beauty pageant for dead people. All you need is an outfit, a talent and to be over 18!
Sometimes people go simple, like with a slit throat and make it their own, along with their talent!
Or sometimes they go bigger, like a drown victim..
A popart zombie..
Or even an evil nun!
!
These are all very cool makeups and the best thing is, I'm going to be attempting the pop art zombie on my mother, who is planning to enter this years compotition!

Production
I am currently in the process of practicing for a lead part in my schools production, which is called 'Tumatauenga ko te pakanga.' In this I play Nanny Roko, the lead characters Nanny. She's a polite and reserved, yet strong-willed old woman who will if given the opportunity get into the thick of things.
I'm really excited to be part of this with the rest of this huge yet amazing cast. (Mainly of which consists of girls haha.) So many talented people are involved in this already and I can't wait for the big night!
The main story of our production is about a boy (Tumatauenga) who is having to deal with the fact that hardly anyone at school could say his full name so they all just call him Tu. His best friend Stan/Kupe also has the same problem, and this causing Tu and Stan to have numerous falling outs.
Throughout the main story, there are little myths that are connected to the main story by either namesakes, events that happen or the characters being aware of their heritage. To list a few of these myths, there will be:
Kupe and the giant octopus.
A link to a retelling of the story: Kupe and the Giant Wheke / Māori Myths, Legends and ...
The Seven starts of Matariki
A link to a youtube video of the author of this book reading it out loud: Seven Stars of Matariki - YouTube
The creation of the Waikato river (Taupiri and Tongariro.)
Hopefully this is going to be an awesome production!

Perspective
In Tech Arts we have been working on taking perspective pictures and editing them, my group consists of Olivia, Emily, Yuxi, Rachel and myself. Everytime we come into a class we watch a movie to help give ideas for that session, it helps alot in my opinion.
A few of the photos that we have taken are like, rotating a picture of someone hanging from monkeybars but looking like they're hanging from a blade of grass or something when you rotate it. Another was when it looked like I was picking up a tiny Olivia and dropping her again.
This is an example of the holding a tiny person, it's actually very simple. All you have to do is have someone far away and someone closer then line them up! You can even try this at home. :D
But not only did we do pictures, but we also did short clips. Some of these were like, Olivia running along my arm, jumping from my head to my hand and being dropped into a bag.
If you want to see some cool examples of perspective videos, just give this link a click! (It'll take you to a youtube video of Zach King, a perspective video viner.)

We're perfect young ladies!
As you would have seen from my previous post, Riverlea Theatre is a big part of my week, and I'm not just talking about the 4-5 class. I attend classes on Tuesdays from 5-6 with the tutor Robert Alderton and other girls from ages 12-15. In this class we have been working on our own Stagecraft Showcase for this month.
Our Showcase includes songs from many different musicals, not all sweet and soft.
The order our songs run in are:
Perfect Young Ladies
The Boyfriend
Cats (The Naming of Cats.)
My Favorite Things
Do Re Mi
My group have greatly enjoyed the time we've spent practising our Showcase and can't wait for the performances. Yet again, tickets are only $15 and we hope to see you there! It'll be a great night!

The Wizard of Oz has come to town!
Everybody knows the iconic story about Dorothy Gale from Kansas and her journey throughout Oz or has seen the movie. So why stop at only having seen the movie or read the book? For the past term and a half, I have been working with a group of nearly 25 children aged from 9-11. We have been developing a shortened version of 'The Wizard of Oz.'
We have been practising every Tuesday and I'm proud to say that the kids are doing very well! The big event that we have been practising for is coming up soon and you can just feel how nervous and excited the kiddies are. Our performances (taking place at Riverlea Theatre) are going to be in September. (So this month!) Tickets are only $15 and the proceeds raised are going to the fund to help Riverlea Theatre buy back it's land! (Will be posting soon about this.) I'll be able to give the exact dates by next week Wednesday though :D
Here's a picture of our lovely Riverlea Theatre!
The children are very eager to continue practising and always arrive with such enthusiasm, that I'm always blown away! I love working with them and being able to be part of their final Stagecraft show is just amazing. I hope some of you might consider coming along and having a laugh with us!
